Generic Host Process for Win32 Services - Crashing

Hey, Im a long time lurker, first time poster, so bear with me if this is wrong section etc.

I restored XP Home from the restore CDs that came with my PC. However after starting up PC, for possibly the first time (after all instalations have completed), I got the following error:

Now after this error, my start bar and window title randomly turn into 'old style windows', being all plain, dull and no gradients etc.

Also when trying to use anything, like WMP to play a few MP3's, it refuses saying:

So meh, that means no music or anything, but my sound should be fine, as all the windows sounds work like logoff sound etc, and also before the error, I ger perfect normal sound, even if I start playing before the error, my music carries on playing ok, after.....I only get problems when exiting WMP and starting again.

Double clicking on my sound icon gives me:

So, I dont know what I should do. Its just a real pain, and Ive restored Windows twice after these messages started, and I get the same problem each time.

Any ideas?

I came to this forum to post about a problem almost exactly the same. My Windows default sounds don't play, and only .mp3 or .wav's will play. Most sounds generated through programs won't work. I've reinstalled the danged drivers for my Sound Blaster Live! about 50 times with 4 different versions of them, nothing, just an occasionally temporary working of sound. Until I get that error that you've got there, with the Generic Service etc crash.
I get those same error messages, plus I can't get Windows Firewall to work. When I go into the Security Center, I get spammed with those svchost.exe crashes.
This is particularily bad because I've got System Restore disabled.

Just want you to know that someone else out there can feel your pain.

 

Well currently on this windows restart session, I havent recieved the error, so I am just not restarting my PC for as long as possible.

Also explorer.exe keeps crashing....even the 'Error Reporting' dialog crashes, which is the most stupid thing ever......

Also posted on another forum about this matter as I wasnt getting anything here. They suggested installing SP2, though that has destoryed my PC in past, so I dont want to install that, again

Anyone got an idea?
