Getting “Connection Interrupted” message at consistent locations in certain websites

Over the last several weeks I have consistently been getting the following error message at certain points within some websites when using FireFox 3.0.3:

    “Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.”

When using Internet Explorer 6.0 I get the following error message at the same location I get the above error when using FireFox:

    “The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings …”

Previously I never saw these errors and was able to connect to these websites without a problem. Unfortunately, I do not know what may have changed or what triggered this problem.

Here are some key components of the IT hardware/software I am using:

    1) AT&T (SBC) DSL in a home office environment
    2) Netgear RangeMax Wireless router
    3) Two-year-old Sony Vaio laptop running fully patched/current service pack Windows XP Professional
    4) Up to date Norton 360 anti-virus
    5) Up to date Paraeto Logic anti-spyware

WHAT I HAVE DONE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM:

    1) I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A NETWORK OR REMOTE SERVER PROBLEM BECAUSE: The problem ALWAYS occurs when I try to search for contractors (such as electricians) on Angieslist.com. As such, I fired up the Netgear router log and navigated to the point just before I click on the Angieslist “Search” button. Next, I cleared the Netgear log and then clicked on the Angieslist search button. I then refreshed the log and interestingly, the log registered NO TRAFFIC AT ALL. This leads me to think that the problem is with my PC hardware or software as my search request is not even reaching my router. Before troubleshooting the problem, I thought that it was a problem only with Angieslist.com. However, yesterday I tried to apply for a job and when I hit the send button after filling out a long form, and uploading my resume & cover letter, WHAMO! The same problem. I’m unemployed and can’t even apply for a job!
    2) I cleared out all my cookies and ran virus & spyware scans
    3) I cleaned up my hard drive and defragged it
    4) I cleaned up my registry with REG CURE
    5) I ran a CHKDSK and found zero files in bad sectors
    6) I booted up in SAFEMODE and got the same error messages
    7) I tried to connect wirelessly and wired and it makes no difference.
    8) I temporarily turned off the Norton firewall but it made no difference
    9) I checked that the Windows firewall is OFF. It is.

If anyone can figure this one out, it would make my week!

    Thanks,
    Alex

I figured out the problem! A few weeks ago I was experimenting with content filtering on my Netgear RangeMax Wireless router WNR834M. When you turn on content filtering on this router it also turns up the router log. My router was in keyword blocking mode with NO keywords blocked.

Today I was further testing my theory that the search request was getting stepped on higher in the protocol stack and therefore not even reaching my router (see item "a" in my troubleshooting list in my original post for more info). For the heck of it, I decided to change keyword blocking on the Netgear from "always" to "never." THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM! I proved it several times by cycling back and forth from "always" to "never" and the "Connection Interrupted" error always returned with "always" clicked.

Bottom line, I will never say never again with my Netgear Router.

Thanks for all of the great info Bad! I believe I have the same problem..but unfortunately, I am an infant and need someone to help walk me through the fix....
I use a netgear router, but have no idea how to access the settings and log files to employ your fix..

    Thanks!

Thanks for trying DomLuc...but alas...I am still an infant....when I use the link you provide I am redirected to the Netgear page http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2614.

I did utilize this site to research my router, but I have a very basic home use router..the wnr2000. It does not appear that I have many options for log file viewing or keyword blocking with this router...? If that is the case, I am afraid that the fix described by Bad will not be possible for me..?

Perhaps I need to dig around and find the CD that came with the router and try to reinstall???

Thanks in advance for any help...this may be quite a process before resolution.
