Getting a new restore CD

I have an emachine with Windows XP Professional. I tried restoring windows with the wrong model type. I have a T1440 emachine and used a restore cd W4685. Now when it tries to boot up, I get the command prompt for the safe mode, normal start options. I get as far as the Windows XP splash screen, then it goes back to the boot options. I need to find out where I can get the correct restore CD, or is it possible to use any restore disk on any emachine.

OK, now regardless of what OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) it is, whether EMachines, HP, Dell, etc., only two types of recovery media will work to restore your computer:

1. The OEM version (from EMachines, in your case) that came with the computer
2. A retail version (which uses the base operating system without the bells and whistles your OEM provides)

If you try to use the wrong media to recover your PC, it will not work. Use the CD that you got from EMachines for your computer, or use a retail version of XP Professional. Either will return your system back to the state it was when you got your computer.

I did receive a reply from emachines. They said that only a restore cd for a specific model will work. They also indicated that I can purchase a restore cd for $20. I might go that route, or maybe use a Windows XP Professional Boot CD and use the original emachine code key.

Anyway, right now I am using an old hard drive that was in my computer. It was disconnected when the new hard drive was connected. It's a lot smaller drive, but right now she just need it for one important project that involves job training.
