Getting An Older Game To Recognize My Sidewinder Joystick

The other day I got on a nostalgia kick and wanted to play an old game called Beyond Pearl Harbor. The last time I played was most likely on an XP box which I no longer have. The game installed no problem but it's not seeing my MS Sidewinder Force Feed joystick. There are no settings within the game to use a joystick, it just recognizes whatever is configured on the operating system. My joystick does show up in the calibration screen and everything works. I have also verified it works in a different game. I have tried different compatibility modes and every usb port to no avail. Is there some tweak somewhere that I don't know about?? Thanks.....

 

So I just had a thought......... maybe my joystick is on the wrong com port and the game only looks at one specific port........... So my question is, are there still com ports in Win10, and if so, is there a way for me to modify them??

 

It could be a limitation of the game as to what joysticks it will recognize. You might be able to use joy2key - or some software that will make the joystick perform as a keyboard.

 

I think you might be right about the limitations. I'm pretty sure the last time I played the game it was with an older stick. I was able to find one on Amazon and ordered it, along with the gameport to usb adaptor. Hopefully that will be a work around.............
