Getting chipped XBOX - what else do I need to set it up as a media centre?

I am about to get an XBOX chipped and was a about to buy a 200 GB HDD. I want to connect it to a PC on which I will install Microsoft media centre through my router - using the xbox as an extender etc. as well as to store "backed up" games .

My question is, do I actually need the HDD so big? Does the chipped XBOX need the "backed up" games to be installed on the HDD inside it? Or can it be on a networked drive? If so I will save some cash. I don't know the specifics of the mod chip.

 

its possible.. you can even have 4 HDD's if you want to. just limit your IDE cable to 24" though, or you will have boot up problems. and you can only boot 1 HDD at a time.

i have 2-250's in my "box" . ive re-mounted it inside a micro-atx desktop case as my media center. one has my mp3s and movies, the other my games. i connected it to my projector and tv. works like a charm

a 250 GB HDD can hold about 125-130 games (stripped off the unwanted files)

 

As wing nut said, extend your ide cable etc.
But be very careful on the topics of modchips on here, no help will be given on them as they're very illegal.

 

It is not illegal to modify an Xbox. You an replace disc drives, hard drives, and other hardware modifications, even modchips. It's the software that's the catching point. For example, the Cromwell BIOS that comes with the Xecuter 2.3 Pro is completely legal. It's the cracked BIOS' used to run copied games, and programs that use the Xbox SDK (which is not released for public use) that are illegal.

 

Here in Switzerland the software is legal too. So too, by the way, is downloading pirated music and dvds. You are just not allowed to redistribute them once you have them. Cool, huh?
