Getting fed up with Vista

My new build is loaded with Vista Ultimate 64 and it seems to be degrading the more I use it. The latest of many crashes reads like this in the event log:

    HRESULT was 8007043c from line 45 of d:\longhorn\com\complus\src\events\tier1\eventsystem obj.cpp

One solution was so complex that I could do more harm than good trying to follow the long list of steps toward a possible resolution. I know there is no magic bullet, but does anyone have a less involved (though not listed) solution.

The one solution involved registry changes and file/folder creation etc. OR, will sp2 for Vista resolve these problems? My main use for this rig is gaming so I'm guessing that some other O/S may be out of the question.

    Any thoughts?

This is so wrong. I finally decided to re-install Vista, but the old files were not replaced, the same issues are present and every query on how to remove Vista completely, only address replacing it with XP or Linux or Ubuntu.

I was not allowed to format the C: partition because of the system files. I really don't want to scrap this OS because of how much I shelled out for it but man I was so tempted to use the disc as a coaster.

The only way to be sure everything is completely wiped is to use killdisk.

Download it and burn it to a disk then boot the PC with the disk in the drive, it will then give you options for which disk you wish to kill.

I don't understand why you didn't just format from the install disk, you did boot to the DVD disk, right?

+1 should of just booted from vista64 disk and did a long format (to be on the safe side)

I use vista64 on my machine and have 0 probs and loving it so as long as system requirements are met should not be a reason to scrap the os

    Hi

I take it D: is your DVD rom drive? Also is this Vista version a retail DVD or download as I have not seen Longhorn mentioned in an installer for many years?

In BIOS I'm set to boot from the optical drive but what I said was, the "new" install is having the same problems.

Now, if I'm doing something incorrectly, I have no problem being helped:) .

I've tried opening/exploring the disc and run it from there...same problems.

I've left the disc in the drive and rebooted the system...no joy.

One thing though! Clarify what you mean by just format from the install disc because I just follow the on screen prompts and the only partition I was able to format was E:, cleaned it 100%.

So far when I try formatting C: (the format option is greyed out) I haven't been successful. Is there a step I'm missing when using the disc?

    :wave Halo,

when this problem arose I googled the event and there are many people with the same error event log. I haven't slightest idea what longhorn is.

    Vista Ultimate:cry

All hardware drivers updated (haven't touched the mobo BIOS)

That's a nice machine. You see it looks to me that you're running the DVD from inside Vista and that's why you can't format that C partition as it's being used. I'm really at a loss here as there's no magic needed, one reboots with the disk in the drive, hits any key when the message comes up and away you should go.:confused

    Thanks augiedoggie,

I thought it was as simple as one..two..three. One other member directed me to Killdisk, but I seem to have botched that as well, I can't get the boot files onto a CD.

Just wanted to thank everyone who endeavored to rectify my problem and for assisting me in learning how to properly use my computers. I am pleased to tell you all that I'm using my Vista O/S to formally thank you again. :)

Also needed to point out that, augiedoggie, you were correct. You were kind enough to give a little nudge without blasting me for not following the directions completely.

Well I did what you suspected would remedy the problem and it worked flawlessly.:clap

:cool, sometmes when one looks at a problem long enough then one develops tunnel vision, so to speak. Glad you got it going.:)
