Getting icons for 16-bit apps in Vista.

Windows Vista by design as 16-bit is old doesnt support 16bit DLLs, so this in turn means that 16bit dlls and ICLs are no longer useful for uploading icons to API for an app, some extra info on this here (old post so image it contained is now not linked to as technet moved stuff around a whiles back)

You maybe able to add a 32bit icon to the application that has default icon given to it, worth a try as their are many many free icons available on the net.

If you know the right dll that has the icons then try IcoFX save the icon as 32bit to a folder or the apps folder then use either icofx if it will let you add to the old .exe a 32bit icon or ResHacker while old and not supported anymore it was my app of choice with hacking XP icons, and works in Vista x64 so should in Vista x86.

Although the exe may not accept the icon, worth a try on a backup of the file though, or just add the extracted icon to a shortcut to the app, tends to work ok on shortcuts as adding icons is more simpler.
