    Hello Geeks!

So, I have finally decided to get a tablet, now that the market has been flooded for some time. I'm looking for something older that won't cost me my arm and leg. However, unlike computers, I really don't know how to read tablet stats, nor do I know the version and series histories for various tablets save for the highly publicized i-tablets. So, my question is this: Does anyone have an older (that's still viable) or cheaper tablet that they liked/like or would recommend?

I agree with the Nexus 7. I almost purchased one but instead I chose the Blackberry Playbook.

You can read my thread here as to why I do not recommend purchasing the Playbook.

Thanks, that's pretty much what my own Googling has turned up. Thanks for the warning on the Playbook though, I was looking at it.

Yes, I also recommend you to go for Nexus 7. The Playbook in Blackberry asks you for a substantial amount of time wastage.

i just have one advise: dont buy extremely cheap tablets, i had a 120€ android tablet first, i barely used it, maybe 1 hour ever week, but now that i have purchased myself an iPad, its being used nearly 10 hours a week! just because its such a pleasure to work with, while the cheap android was so horribly slow....

Nexus 7 doesn't fall into that category of cheap and slow.

Inexpensive yes, cheap and slow, no.

I love my Surface, which is Microsoft's tablet. It behaves like a laptop and has a desktop as well. It also comes loaded with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint if you find you need those.

Yeah I hear you Jeremy and Nexus 7's are way better value than Surface RT and any Apple iPad but for me Surface allows seamless integration with my Windows PCs with a similar UI.

Personally I would go for any Android Tablet over Apple any day, but I and this is an "I" would go for Surface Pro, if you want a replacement to a laptop or netbook, I would go for Surface RT as a iPad alternative.

NRS in the end I thin an Android and Nexus 7 is a great option for you but not knowing your spend $$££ and what you want to use a tablet for then its hard to give a full answer.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet-2 it's 8gb but you can add a 32gb sd card. The price is much lower than the iPad mini. If you buy it though a cell carrier you can get wifi or pay for a month and turn the data plan off after 1 month as needed.

Nexus 7 has more frequent software updates and less bloat.

Also, if it is anything like the GS3 and Note 2 phones, it requires root and hacking to use apps on the sd card. They will default to the 8gb, which will leave very little room for large apps like games.

Better to get 16 or 32gb Nexus 7.

I didn't know that about the games running on only the 8gb.
I would have bought the Nexus 7 if it could have a data plan.

There is a GSM version of the Nexus 7 as well.

    Now, anyway.
