    hi. i need to know if there's any way to get into my sister's gateway notebook. shes and my dad forgot all the passwords to it. when you start it up, it says press f2 for system setupl; press esc to boot from disk. if i go to setup it asks for a pass, which i don't have, but if i leave it, it asks for the bootup password. any help would be good. this has been a problem for months, but since she's never needed it (back from college), i've never looked into it. i've tried puching all the keys to boot up in safe mode or whatever, but they don't work{i don't know if they were disabled or what?}.
    thanks in advance, mike.

    It sounds as though a bios password for powerup was set by your sister. If you still have the owner's manual for the laptop, it should tell you how to clear/reset the bios, and this will rid you of the password on powerup. :)

    This link that came up as a result of a Google search should help you. ;)

    I also use a freeware called KillCMOS but the info on that link should help you out (and educate at the same time). :)

    ok. thanks for the tips, but the link is to remove/reset a bios/ password. i can't access the bios by any of the keys mentioned, but if i were to mechanicaly reset it would it clear the other passwords? i dunno, let me try to find the book that came with it.

    well, i tried killcmos and it didn't work:\ i don't know why but i couldln't boot up with the disk. i put in the disk and when it said "press esc to boot up with floppy or cdrom";
    i kept tapping esc-->didn't work. so i next tried holding down esc-->got a loud beeping noise. so i dunno, i think my dad's just gonna take it somewhere to be fixed. thanks for all your shtuhff.

    Call the manufacturer to find out how to reset the CMOS/BIOS.
