This has happened several times in the last week, I finally did a 'ipconfig /flushdns' and it popped right back on. Who's end is at fault here as I have no idea. Thanks.

    Hi Augie,

I get bounced around every once in awhile, can you explain the "'ipconfig /flushdns' " to me, maybe it will help me too.

Moved to Networking as welcome center is not best area for tech questions, plus removed my original post as I was being sarcastic/jokey, which was not to professional attitude to have, also removed the subsequent posts which kinda mirrored mine as usual.

    To augie sorry.

Which OS? Seems alot of DNS issues over the whole net of late, plus it could also be the forums server, if you get kicked do a tracert on forums.majorgeeks.com.

or if negative entries are becoming more frequent in XP ( not tested if same registry key will work in Vista yet ) you could try this registry change to allow the OS not to store negative entries, it may help

To force Windows XP NOT to cache negative entries you'll need to create a new DWORD to the following Registry key,

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
    \Services\Dnscache\Parameters

DWORD: MaxNegativeCacheTtl and enter Value: 0

    Usual registry warnings apply.

My OS ATT was XP, but Vista was also affected as others have posted. I will do a tracert the next time and post the results back here.

I'm using XP in this case, hit the start button , click on 'run' at the bottom and enter 'ipconfig /flushdns' into the box without the quotes and having a space between ipconfig and the / This will not eliminate the issue, just get you back on sooner in my experience.

@Halo, I can imagine what the posts said that you you removed.:D The only thing I couldn't fathom is why there was no 'moved' arrow there in the intro forum, I know now. I'll try the registry fix and report back. I hope this helps someone.:)

BTW Halo, Mg search doesn't find the post in question. Oh well, sorry to have bothered you.

I will try IP flush next time n trace :)

Re: problem, it's sporadic w/me and only when I'm logged in to MGs, sometimes 2 or 3x in a day, then none for a month.

I get IE7 error "page cannot be displayed"

I can go to other sites, just MG's will not load, use "repair connection" no help. The only thing that seems to help is CCleaner.

When MG's does load...I'm still logged-in here, so not booted from server.

Not sure what causes it, but when I look at SB to see if others having trouble sometimes there is mention of a lag, but most times everyone else is fine. I have stayed logged-in for 8+ hrs w/no problem too, so I have no clue.

    I use XP-SP2

*smiles* n thanks Augie & Halo,

    Cat
