I'm excited, im getting a Radeon x800 pro, i ordered it on sunday and the delivery date was the 10th but now when i check my order it says its on back order so im hoping im not left waiting too long, its listed at $400 retail for suggested retail but its $461 at newegg, ouch, i got it for $424 with next day air from dell. i think that will make a big improvement over my geforce mx440. my 3dmark01 se score was around 4k with a 2.4ghz 533fsb and 512 mb of rd pc 800 ram, i think with a new vid card i will at least double that score. after all that said finally to my question, does anyone know how much of a performance difference i am looking at with 4x agp compared woth 8x agp ?

I dont think there is a game out yet ( will come soon I bet ) that uses the full 8x. But you will see a big difference anyway .

Games dont specifically use speed, they are set up to render the frames as quickly as possible, at the fastest rate while limiting the change of the frames depending on input calcuations. If you have a 8x card, then it will run at 8x. Its just a matter of whether the game limits the framerate in order to keep things in synch, or whether it lets it run at full speed. Games used to rely on the hardware being the limiting factor, but these days hardware is more advanced than software, so the software has to limit itself to be playable.

However, when you are talking about technologies like DirectX 9 or whatever, there are very few games that "use" that. Or perhaps a shader technology of some kind. You can "use" a technology but you cant use a speed. Its like saying Windows ME can't use a 3GHz processor.

Erm, anyway! You must be really stoked up bout getting that card! I really envy you! Have fun playing with it!

Dont forget, AGP is about to be dumped for PCI express as well. Probably good riddance.

Well, once PCI-express comes out well and truley, i wanna get the best AGP card you can get for gaming, because the prices should have gone right down by then. I will not be willing to upgrade my whole setup just to take advantage of PCI-express. Maybe when i get a totally new setup, but not now.

yeah i kinda thought about PCI express too but i cant wait that long i am too impatient and i gotta get it while i have the money and the next time i will have money is next summer, i dont think pci express is going to be all sorted out by the end of the summer so i figured might as well go for it now
