So I just sent another pile of MAC software off to the office IT help yourself bin, and I ask myself, is there not a better way to get rid of old hardware/software. There must be charities or better yet hardware exchange sites to use? Or am I just hallucinating with exhaustion after having to carry a box of software up so many flight of stairs. Any ideas of how better to get rid of/swap hardware and software, esp hardware, thats too good to just throw out - other than Ebay etc.

If this is a bit off topic, delete away!!

It depend how old it is!!!
What Leeds University and other large companys do is send it to recycle charities and what they do is send the working computers to students of the university who need it for homework, or africa and other less privilegd places like that.

But for one little mac even if they do some how accept your offerings as the recycle charities take on orders of up to a hundred at a time. the odds it in not getting thrown away or lost are high.

As for Ebay the speed the computer market falls is so fast that after about 1 year 6 months even the newest things have plumeted to like 15% of the orginal price.

So you have chose the best option in my opinion letting your work coluges scavinge through it.

    I hope this helps

Well generally the stuff I have knocking around is a 1 year behind everyone else. I use freecycle that seems to shift a lot of stuff, but the reason for my asking was I keep getting lambasted by people telling me there are various charities that have been set up that take IT bits and bobs, and that I should use them instead of dumping old hardware, specifically large stuff like CRT's. But I have never found these charities and I have doubts that they exist. I have heard of some of the big recycle programs and charities, but nothing for the occasional odds and sods. Ah well, I think I will follow your advice and just keep dumping what I can on work colleagues. It always seems to go. Thanks again.
