Getting rid of IE... for good

How do i remove this dang thing from my com for good. i get popups all the time in an IE window when im using FF as my default. i have blocked IE with my firewall but the window still comes up saying Cannot find server. IE is worthless to me so how do i completely remove this crappy browser microsoft hands out to me. it is unchecked in the "Add/Remove Windows components" FYI

 

you can't fully get rid of IE because it is an essential, integrated part of windows. The best thing you can do is remove all of the shortcuts, make FF your default browser and just keep using FF.

IE is usually required to enable access to MS to download updates, but (I read somewhere) there is another method of doing this, apparently, not involving IE.

Other geeks please step in with this alternative, as I only use IE.
