Casing is CM Mystique 631, front panel is connected to X-Fi XtremeGamer with the High Definition plug into the 10 pin labeled "Front Panel" on the sound card(8th pin removed).

I am getting sound through earphones, but i am also getting static and other weird noises, very noticeable if im not playing music. Also very noticeable when playing video files as background static. Speakers are fine, and if i plug in the earphones to the I/O port on te back they are fine too.

So far the hypothesis ive heard include :

-Pins not setup correctly on the plug
    -Front panel is spoilt
    -Plug is spoilt
    -Interference in the casing

Was wondering if any of you heard of anything like this and possible solutions?

The only thing I can suggest is magnetic interference, when in the front panel, is it closer to a speaker, (as when speakers and microphone interfere with each other ), or some other device.

Well i would guess that the front panel is marginally closer to the speakers i have. Anything that i can try?

As the front headphone jack point is closer to hard drive, it could be picking up static from the spinning of the hard drive. From the little I know of these things, the better headphones pick up more.
You can try setting linein/mic mixer settings to mute, to see if it will help.
Otherwise I just cannot offer any other advice.

My front panel is actually pretty far away from the hard drive o_O.

Disabling line in doesnt seem to help unfortunately. Infact that was the default setting.

I had a similar problem in the past. I set my Master Voume to 1/4-1/3 and all others at max. That got rid of the static on my system. As baklogic said, the better the headphones the more sensitive they are.

Im not using super good earphones...its the stock ipod nano ones. And i know people who have connected front panels to the same soundcard with no problem...

Try the same as Musksnipe, altering the master volume - sorry I cannot offer more help on this one.
