    Hi everyone,

Just need to check something and my google-fu is failing me

I'm currently running a Radeon AMD 6850 on my mobo but I want to upgrade.
The mobo is an Asus P5G41T-M LX2/GB
I have DDR3 RAM in it right now

Can this Mobo accept DDR5 memory?
And if the GFX card is something like a 7790 which has DDR5 RAM on it will there be a problem?

I've tried looking about but I'm not really getting anywhere with understanding it
    thank you in advance

    Hello,

Graphics cards memory is called GDDR not DDR and yes, a 7790 with GDDR5 in this case is compatible.

Probably you're confused about the whole DDR3 and DDR5 thing.

System Ram is rated in the various types: SDR RAM, DDR RAM, DDR2 RAM, DDR3 RAM with DDR3 being the fastest and most recent one. This has nothing to do with GDDR5.

Graphics Card Memory is commonly found in 2 types these days: GDDR3 and GDDR5.

GDDR type Ram is used only in graphic cards, so say you have an old system with DDR2 System Ram and a GDDR5 Ram graphics card, it would work just fine as they're 2 separate things even though their purpose is similar.

Hope this clears the whole thing up. Also I happen to have a PC with your same motherboard and I have a GDDR5 Ram graphics card on it and works fine so go ahead.
