    Hey up chaps

so I'm having trouble with my GFX card. every so often the screen moves to the right on the monitor up to half the picture (which then reappears on the left)

v frustrating, have noe clue why it's happening. Now I have an old system and the gfx card was not the best when I bought it (thank you so much for the 'a graphics card shouldn't cost more than £50' argument ex-gf)
but I don;t really know why it's happening, there are no odd sounds or smells coming from the box and I do get rid of dust every so often.
    System as follows:

    System - Zoostorm
    Processor -
    3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium Dual-Core
    64 kilobyte primary memory cache
    2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    64-bit ready
    Multi-core (2 total)
    Not hyper-threaded

    Main Circuit Board -
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5G41T-M LX2/GB Rev X.0x
    Serial Number: MT7019K75704363
    Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0405 11/22/2010

    Drives -
492.98 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
118.82 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

ATAPI iHAS122 ATA Device [Optical drive]

    WDC WD5000AAKX-001CA0 [Hard drive] (500.11 GB) -- drive 0, s/n WD-WCAYUFS61088, rev 15.01H15, SMART Status: Healthy

    Memory -
    4096 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

Slot 'DIMM A1' has 4096 MB
    Slot 'DIMM B1' is Empty

    Display -
AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series [Display adapter]
    Acer S271HL [Monitor] (27.2"vis, s/n ETLUW0D005220024088530, May 2012)

So, I'm wondering if anyone has an idea on how to stop this happening. Or if I need to upgrade this ageing gfx card, what I upgrade to. At the moment I can afford about £100 which isn't great but I figure anything I get is going to be better than what I have now (especially if it's borked)

    thanking you in advance

    Hello,

Before thinking about getting a new card did you try attaching the pc to another monitor to make sure it's the card? Have you tried reinstalling or updating your drivers?

One last thing, If you don't have another monitor and maybe you have a laptop you can attach the laptop and set the monitor as an external display.

Since you're on a tight budget I think it would be best to rule out these possibilities.

a good point - I don't have access to any other monitors really

I shall see if I can borrow one
