GGrrrrr, waiting 300 seconds....

totally bites! I can understand having to wait a minute to stop the spamming but why would you have it set to wait 5 minutes? It is very frustrating to have a pm conversation when you are waiting that long to send a reply.

I admit that does suck when you only have so long to spend here at this site and you just want to pop a PM to a few friends and say hello before you have to log off. As for the IM, again that is something that you would need a little more time for as the quick hello does not apply.

If you use your buddie list,,click on a members name and add to,,,in the quick-link tool bar you can open buddie list and send a message to 1 or all on the list,,,lets say a goodnight message ETC,,,multi- messages are available here,, does not fix the 300 min rule,,,but helps to send to more then one person at a time, Glenn

Eric,,I believe it may be there to ward off spamming people,,,if anyone could send message after message,,we could not use our mail boxes,,,a 50 max limit,,it would be insanity if it were like a IM program,,,not fitting for the boards...Glenn

 

oh well, that makes sense, so how about we do something like 60 seconds, and implement some hard core non-spamming rule where all who spam are gone? just a thought.

I know a guy who just started a v bul forum
and was hit hard by bots and spammers

he's trying to get it all worked out now
infact he "hired" a guy to send bots to his forum

 

so then we are all spammers. . . .

so they make money from this site? i've never used any of it excpept for the forums. guess i'll have to look around a little.

 

They make money from the advertising links that people use after coming to the site. If you want to help, click a few links. I think they also get a small slice if you buy something from one of the links, or from the shopping section. Clicky clicky

 

still, waiting 5 minutes to send a reply sucks, and although it cuts down on spammers, its still an excessive amount of time. Also, being a girl, I dont give people I dont know priviledge to chat on IM right away, that is what the pm is for, to get to know someone a little before giving out that information. Also, when Im at work, I can't get onto and IM to talk to someone, so I depend on the pm system to communicate one on one, so it is rather an inconvenience to have to wait.
Also, just because the forum doesnt make money doesnt mean it isnt a vital part of this site. I am sure more then not people come to this just because of the forum and then find out there is more to it, so in this regard, the forum is what brings people to this site, and keeping members happy is what will keep this site alive because no one wants to hang around if the forum is dead.

 

Oh c'mon, not being able to PM people won't kill the forum might be slightly inconvinient, especailly where the PM system is the only way I can contact these people, but hey, life goes on

The *im's have more than enough going on to be bothered with opening up a loophole for spammers eperimentally.

 

Beside which, the point of a PUBLIC FORUM is to share things and converse with the group. If there's something that needs to be said privately, occasionally, time limits aren't a problem. If you want to chat in private regularly, either set up IM links back & forth or swap email addresses. That's not the point of a forum.

 

I totally agree with you G.T. Had e-mail been used wisely earlier this year, PM's and this board may not have gone the way it has (IMO). 'nuff said by me.
