   An image (not a backup) will take a cluster by cluster picture of the hd at the point in time the image is createded. This includes all programs, files, recycle bin items, etc. The entire hard drive contents.
   
   It is always a good idea to do a bit of cleanup, like emptying recycle bin and defragging before you create your image so you don't have useless items in your image.
