I have been trying to reinstall windows Xp in a Emachine every time i try to install it goes to 5% and then states Ghosterr txt error 437 cannot read file.
    Im freaking.
Is this error due to a scratch? I do not see any. But cant figure anything else that would cause it.
    Please help....
    Thanks

It could also be a bad image.. did you try to check the integrity of the image after you made it? if not, in the future, it's always a good idea to do this for situations just like this.

I take it the disk you have is the Emachines recovery disk?

Is this the first time you have used the disk? why I say this is these disks are not generally mastered onto high quality cdrs and even tho you dont see any scratches there may well be a mastering fault.. in which case you need to get a new recovery cd from Emachines.

you could try copying the recovery cd to a new cdr.. who knows it may work.

    Thanks for your responses,,
The disc were never opened until i needed them, I have to agree that there must be a scratch on the master disc.
I have been on my wits end trying to figure it out,Emachines are nooooo help what so ever you call and they hang up on you!
I am going to try to make another copy in hopes of a miracle.(Ha HA)
    Thanks again.

I hate that... a company wants you to buy their products and when it comes to customer service ( well customer dis-servce ) they STINK!!!

if you get no joy from talking to one of there CS reps then use this to email them and tell them that you keep getting hung up on http://help.emachines.com/ and that all you want is a replacement restore CD.

if you bought your PC from a shop go back there and see if they can help you.. who knows they may have a spare CD... no harm in asking.

I dont think there is any easy way around the faulty disk apart from getting a new one, I did a bit of searching this morning to see if one could be downloaded sadly I didnt find any download locations @ emachines or gateway.

ps do let us know how you get on
