This began about 3/4 weeks ago. I started to get garbled, unintelligible short burst of audio on my computer. They are one, sometimes two, word audio sounds that seem to be either backwards speech or “Donald Duck” like voice emanations. I get them whether I have Windows Media or I-tunes running or not. I get them even when I have no audio files running. Sometimes I will go for hours without hearing them then I’ll get maybe 10 or more for a couple of hours. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to hour of day or what other applications (games, word prossessing, etc) I may be running. Has anyone else ever had/have or ever heard of this sort of ’glitch.’

I run Windows XP and, not because I like them, AOL as my ISP. I use Firefox for 99% of my browsing.

If you are CERTAIN they are not sounds indicating a hardware issue then it could be:

"I decided to perform an informal, unscientific survey by sending an email relating my experiences to several members of our group asking if they had any ideas, comments or suggestions. One member reported that she heard voices coming out of her PC speakers. She was careful to observe that no television, radio or other broadcasting medium was on in the house at the time. You could make a good Twilight Zone episode out of this, but the most likely explanation is that her system was picking up a transmission from a citizens band radio with a booster. How's that for bringing you back down to earth? How dare you destroy my illusions?"

"We pick up some weird radio braodcast, I think it's CB judging from the sound of it, in our speaker system on the PC. It's wicked because it comes through at it's own volume, at random times and scares the crap out of me!!

I don't know where/how/why we're picking up that signal but I was thinking of getting a baby monitor and making an aluminum foil hat."

"Point in case: at times I was able to hear voices coming through the speakers if I held my ear very close . At first it sounded like a ham radio operator but then my wife listened to it and realized that we were picking up someone talking on their cell phone!"

Thanks Toni for the reply. I must rule out CB/cell phone interference as the 'glitches' are too short and are the same 3 or 4 words. At one time I did live next to a CB violator who would crank up his transmitter to well over the legal limit…WOW! The harmonics spread all over the radio spectrum and blasted through whatever radio or stereo devise I had playing at the time. Even if I was playing vinyl or cassette tapes at the time.

I am leaning toward the theory that it is coming from a website I frequent, no clue which one, that has a broken audio track. I may have ten or more tabs open at anyone time so I need to close one at a time and through the possess of elimination find the offending site. Another cause could also be some computer game I have open.

As long as the messages from this specter don’t become long phrases of inter-terrestrial or inter-dimensional nature I….griexxxl isxl ghrrxz baalum groka …
