    Wow, that is crazy.

I can't even imagine what the swarm would look like if you agitated that thing.

    Terrifying, to say the least.

I wonder if the queen cooperation is evolutionary or just a way to deal with odd weather conditions.

Impressive picture of the nest inside the Chevrolet. Never seen anything like it before.

I had a yellow jacket swarm invade my bathroom roof space once (flat roof). It was amazing watching them swarm in. We gassed them out.

I had an up close encounter with a yellow jacket, a few weeks ago….in order to keep costs down, the city here, like other towns, uses a slurry seal on the roadway…well they did the bike paths too……thought I had a rock, fly off of my bike wheel, went to remove the rock, was a yellow jacket, and stung my forehead…..30 minuets after was on the way to ER, every time my heart beat, it hurt, about a eight on a 1 to 10 scale……but, no problems breathing, just some swelling…..wobbles

and didn't think about it, so sorry, but no photos

That sounds nasty, Wobbles. Glad you were ok.

My son's grandfather is highly allergic to bee stings. He was in his 60's before he first got stung and discovered this. Kinda scary.

Bees sting once and die. Wasps get frenzied and continue to sting 'till you kill them. While cycling, a single wasp got inside my shirt. Before I killed it I was stung 3 times. But while my Mom was applying Calomine she noticed blood at my beltline. The wasp had removed a chunk of flesh the size of a match-head. So, they sting and they take groceries with their nasty little mandibles.
