gif animations

i cannot view any gif animations on the internet on my computer. the animations just stay in the very first frame as a still picture. i am running windows xp, and using internet explorer. this is a recent problem. other people can see animated icons, etc. that i cannot see. i haven't tried viewing them in another browser, i would not like to have to switch to another browser just so i can see gifs.
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your time.

 

Hi Duger. Are you still running MS Java Virtual Machine or did you install Service Pack 1a which deletes MSJVM? You might want to read this
thread it deals with MSJVM uninstall and how to install Sun Java. Be sure to read alanc's post (4th down) for the application that uninstalls MSJVM if it's still on your 'puter. Not sayin' that MSJVM is the problem but it might be. And Sun Java is superior to the old MSJVM.
