Gifs Go Animated But How?

Hello i am back with another question....

I have seen on the internet since the beggining of internet time that people have uploaded animated GIFS eg: sing pictures of various forums etc.

so i scanned around and found some softweare but you have to buy it and it have a watermark on the picture etc.

Could someone

1) please tell me how to make animated gifs without external aid from internet softweare.

2) if you dont know can you please tell me where to get some softweare that is free and no watermarks etc.

You can get a free copy of Mi¢r$oft Gif Animator from LINK . It's an old program but they claim they are running it on XP w/SP2 without any problems.
