Gigabyte 7VM333M-RZ Motherboard replacement

Hi all.. I have a (slighlty old) p.c. with a Gigabyte 7VM333M-RZ motherboard.. I have lots of memory, disk space and good peripherals so I'm reluctant to spend lots on a new tower, but I want better performance.. Is there any way I can just buy a better board to put in there, dual or quad core?? I have a feeling I'm being very ambitious but maybe there's some good news out there??

Your system is kind of old. If you want a quad core or dual core cpu I would really consider a new pc.
