    Hi all.

I have a very odd problem. I'm unable to get on the Internet or even connect to my router anymore on my desktop computer. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R mobo with an onboard Realtek NIC. I've tried so many things to fix it... I've contacted my ISP to see if there was something up with the Internet in my area, rebooted my computer/modem/router, tried to do a System Restore (which wouldn't work until I went to Safe Mode), and I've tried to install new drivers for my NIC, all to no avail.

    A few more details:
    I'm on Windows XP Professional.

IPCONFIG doesn't show anything except for the line "Windows IP Configuration".

Device Manager shows nothing for Networking. It goes straight from "Monitors" to "Ports (COM & LPT)".

Going to Add/Remove Programs and clicking "Change" on "REALTEK GbE & FE Ethernet PCI-E NIC Driver" returns an error for "Setup.exe". The appname & modname for the crash is _is88.exe.

Pinging 127.0.0.1 seems to work with 0% loss.

I've checked my BIOS too. At my BIOS, I go to "Integrated Peripherals". "Onboard H/W Lan" is enabled. "SMART LAN" has no value set, I press enter on it and it says "Virtual Cable Test", but I can't do anything when I go there. "Onboard LAN Boot ROM" is set to disabled, but I've tried enabling it, saving, and restarting the PC and there has been no difference as the Internet still does not work with it enabled.

I've also tried new ethernet cords to see if that changed anything, but that made no difference.

BTW, I haven't tried clearing my CMOS yet, but I'm contemplating it.

check on the back of computer where rj-45 cable plugs into the ethernet port on motherboard,,is there a light there...if not,,its not working

check the device manager and see if its there....should be and working properly

go into the bios and make sure your onboard realtek ethernet is enabled...

could be your onboard ethernet is not working.. then just buy a nic card..they are dirt cheap $5-10,,disable the onboard networking on motherboard,,install nic, and drivers,,,and that should do it.

Half of what you said I already detailed doing in my post. Did you read it?

Obviously my onboard ethernet is not working, or I wouldn't be here. I just wanted to know if there may be a way to fix it. Yes, I could simply buy a replacement NIC, but then why the hell would tech forums exist? "Oh, I see, your product broke? Go buy another one."

well....if the things i stated are not working...your onboard is not working..and device manager is the place to see if its working or not....and if its not listed....well,,,do one thing ,,,re-install your chipset drivers and lan drivers and see if that helps.

    Hi,
I had the same problem with two of these motherboards, after hours of messing about :confused i finally got the fix for onboard NIC not working issue.:-D

Gigabyte has released the latest version of bios and onboard NIC drivers for P35-DS3R. You need to either flash or update the bios first and then reinstall the NIC driver for Realtek.

If that doesnt work, then you have to reset the motherboard with default factory settings by removing the power ATX connection on the motherboard and cmos battery on the motherboard for couple of minutes. You have to remove both for this to work. After couple of minutes insert the cmos battery back in followed by Power ATX connecter to the motherboard. Power on your pc and this time you will see the NIC light flashing showing there is connectivity. For the NIC light to flash, you need to have the network cable plugged in from either a router or another computer. Boot up and login to windows and open internet explorer to make sure internet is working ok.:) Hope that helps!!!!
