I need to draw a white-filled box in several JPeg files for the purpose of labeling the files in GIMP. How do I do that?

Using the Text icon, draw a box where you want to write.
Fill it with White, using the Bucket icon.
Back to the Text icon, and write your text, creating a new Layer.
Merge Layers before saving or exporting.
    Hope that helps.

I filled it with white, but only some of it gets filled. Apparently it's a selective fill. ;( How do I fill it properly? I did use the bucket icon.

BTW, I just got it to work, but I used the Gradient tool. :)

Umm, mine fills no matter what size I make it.
Could be something in your settings.

Never mind---I discovered the select tool, and it does what I need. I thank you for all your help. :)
