Here at MG there's the excellent Glary Utilities http://www.majorgeeks.com/Glary_Utilities_d5870.html
Out of curiosity, I visited the Glary web site, and they have the free version that's also here at MG, but there's also a paid 'Pro' version. I looked at the features list of the Pro version and the free version; a put the lists side-by-side and couldn't see any difference between the two. Did I miss something? What's the difference between Glary Free, and Glary Pro?

:confused Is there a difference? :confused

    At first glance:

    Free one: Glary Utilities

Optimize, clean and boost the speed of your Windows.
    Protect your privacy and security.
    Block spyware, trojans, adware, etc.
    Fix certain application errors.
Simple, fast and User friendly interface
    For only private use

    Pro: Glary Utilities PRO

    Automatic care in background
Optimize, clean and boost the speed of your Windows.
    Protect your privacy and security.
    Block spyware, trojans, adware, etc.
    Fix certain application errors.
Simple, fast and User friendly interface
Much much more powerful utilities (whatever that means, you'd have to look that one up ;) )

Ahhhhh.... I must have missed that
Somehow, that doesn't strike me as a good thing. I don't need anything in the background 'caring' for me other than my virus/spyware tools. I think I'll stick with the free version. It works freekin' beautifully!!!!!!!!
    Thanks for the info!

I have used the Pro version in the past and found it can cause more problems than it solves.
it tends to change some of your registry setting in OPTIMIZE mode so i don't use it any more.

have never used the free version so i don't know if it has any bad effects?

    Yes,

I've had the idea something was 'wrong' ever since I (first) rebooted after an All-1-One scan and repair. I'm convinced it's unsuitable for -at least- my os, w2k3 x64. After a repair from cd-rom, windows indicated a corrupt hive in the registry: software (caps). That would make glarysoft suspect No 1 for the AC97 audio failing beyond attempts to repair. In retrospect probably due to a 'dll error'. I plan to use the Sysinternal tools to investigate the pc according to Windows Guide for Computer Investigation (and reporting). However, I would very surprised if my instincts prove to be wrong.
