Gmail, partioning or VPN for storage?

I want to save my 3,000 mp3s before reinstalling Windows XP - I can't connect to another computer via a direct connection (some Windows problem). Someone mentioned that gmail could store them. How do I go about getting an account? And will it be enough to store 3,000? Can I compress mp3s?

Someone else mentioned partitioning the hard drive. How does that work? Does this allow me to reinstall windows and keep the files?

Or should I set up a VPN and pass them onto a remote PC? Is it easy to get them baclk that way?

uploading 3000mp3's onto a gmail account , eh i dont think so.

gmail gives you 1GB of storage 3000 mp3's is going to take up > 15GB

even if there was a big enough storage space on gmail it would take an eternity to upload.

One option you could take is to create a partiton on your harddrive to hold your mp3's and then you could reinstall windows on the other partition.

You could also just get a second harddrive. You might be able to get a second hand one off someone for fairly cheap.

 

Sorry i didnt really read the question properly. Well in this option partitioning is your best option.

Partitioning is basically creating a number of separte drives on the same harddrive. This comes in handy if you want to split up your harddrive into sections such as games, mp3's, work etc.

In your case you will want to create 2 partitions. One to store your mp3's and one to reinstall windows.

You can download a partioning tool to do this for you. I dont know of any free ones that are good because i use "partition magic 8.0". you have to pay for that.

Maybe someone else can suggest a good free partitioning tool.
