This started yesterday right after I received a Google security alert for one of my email addresses.
There are two (2) accounts on my Outlook 2007; my main account (xxxx@gmail.com) is the one I am having trouble with. The account works on Google webmail and on my iPhone, without issue. My 2nd account (xxxx.xxx@gmail.com) works on all 3 platforms. I have checked the server settings, password and tried configuring the account for both Pop3 & Imap and continue to get the same error; (email server rejected your login, check user name and password)!
I have and changed the password and verified it works on the iPhone and webmail.
I have never had an issue with the account and am stuck! This is my main account and I am lost without it.

Email accounts have to be either POP3 or IMAP, not both. Check that all devices are configured for the same protocol.

Thank you for your reply. I know it's either Imap or Pop3. Sorry I was not clear on that.
What I did after the trouble started was to set the email up on the PC as IMAP and test it on the pc, iPhone, and webmail. What happened was the email would not connect in outlook and worked correctly in webmail and on the iPhone. I shut everything down and set the programs up for Pop3, with the same result. All the server settings were verified as well as the user name and passwords. Additionally, the 2nd email address works flawlessly on all platforms in both IMAP & PoP3.
Do you think it could be a corrupted Outlook profile? Currently, the emails are set for IMAP.
This stuff makes my hair hurt!

The error is confined to just one account in Outlook. Have you tried deleting the account in Outlook, restarting, and setting it up again?

I'm wondering if there is a problem between Outlook 2007 and Gmail. My wife has an old gmail account in Outlook 2007 which she hasn't used in a while but as of tonight is still working. I also have Outlook 2007 but have never set up my gmail account so tonight I have been trying to do so. I cannot get it working even though I am 100% certain of the settings. During account setup I got a Critical Security Alert email from Gmail telling me the sign-in attempt was blocked. It looks as if my account in Outlook has been permanently blocked, so maybe yours has too as you had also had a security alert.

I'll see if I can find out any more.

It seems Gmail has decided Outlook 2007 is a "less secure app".
Change the setting in Gmail to allow less secure apps.

Edit: We posted at the same time.

Thank you, for your help; I do not have time to try it tonight but will work on it in the AM.
That being said, the troubleshooting process created its own issues, deleting the and recreating the account created another inbox path and added to my folder tree, which I will address after I applied the fix.
Thanks again for the help, I will post after I allpy the fix.

If you are on Win 10 you might want to see how you get on with a gmail account in Mail. I gave up on Outlook 2007 about ten years ago and moved to Thunderbird which I stayed with until Win 10 appeared about 4 years ago. Really haven't looked back once using Mail. It won't suit everyone though. From what I've seen about this Gmail/Outlook issue I can't see anyone finding that satisfactory long term.

    I
    Thank you for your input!
I have been fighting with this for the past hour. I have set up less secured access for the account in issued (1) and Do I need to set it up for the 2nd account?? Which is now giving me errors.

The issue with Moving to Gmail webmail is that I have a large folder tree for both accounts which I Need to keep, one is personal and one is work-related. Additionally I have a large address/ contact book.

If that is workable to move I think I would consider it. I use Carbonite for backup and do not know how it would work with webmail??

Hi, I'm not advocating using webmail, I'm suggesting you try Mail in Win 10. With a Gmail account it will continue supporting your folder tree, calendar and contacts and can take multiple other accounts.. Backups aren't too meaningful when using IMAP. You are reliant on Gmail not losing your history.

Earthling; Can you recommend an app to migrate from Outlook 2007 to Windows 10 mail?
Do I set the two email accounts up in Mail 1st and then migrate the tree and contacts or will migrating move everything??

There is no migration process at all. Just set up your accounts in Mail and your folder tree, with all your messages, will automatically be created. It's the magic of IMAP. The People app will automatically create your contacts if it doesn't have them already, same with Calendar. In fact I suspect you can simply leave Outlook as it is and run Mail in parallel.

Sorry to be a pain in the A**! I guess I am missing something!
I set up both accounts in Mail, and they work fine. But my outlook folder tree and address did not transfer.
