Gmail Won't Link Accounts...sort Of

Hi, I hope it's okay to ask about web-based email in this forum.
After reading the news about Gmail being hacked, I followed the standard advice and changed my passwords. Unfortunately, even after I went to Settings - Accounts and Import, and made sure to match my personal Gmail email add's new password in this tab, I wasn't getting my personal emails in my work account.
I followed all of the advice I found online and still couldn't load those emails on my main (work) account. So, I gave up and deleted the personal account under "Send mail as:"
I then created a new link between the accounts. My inbox email then went from 160 listed as unread to...2,305. And yet, NONE of the emails from my personal email account are showing up in the inbox. I still have the 160 unread in the actual inbox, in spite of the number on top of the tab.
I'm also seeing a message that "Last checked: 1 minute ago.200 mails fetched.View history 96 mails remaining." This number keeps growing.
I'm assuming that one problem is that I have my personal email listed under both "Check mail from other accounts (using POP3):" AND "Send mail as:"
It seems like maybe one is half-working and the other isn't working at all. I've spent around an hour trying to Google a solution to this and I've come up with nothing.
If anyone can help me with this -- how to have my personal email return and to see the actual emails listed as Unread, I'd deeply appreciate it. Thanks!
