I read some of the other thread on GMAIL and I cannot find my answers, I'd really appreciate some help
1-is gmail the best online email to use? these questions I have seem to be really stupid, things that I never questioned when I used AOL mail,

2-sometimes I will start a brand new email, hit compose and type in the address and the subject, the message and when I HIT SEND, I get an error that says something close to
"The conservation you are sending is in the DELETE FILE, it was not sent, click here for more detials"
I try to understand the more details, but I can't? Im just a total non-computer person.

3- I want to save emails, not JUST HIT THE STAR NEXT TO THEM, but keep them at the top of my screen, UNREAD,...;.how do I do this?

Thats all I can think of right now, thanks people.

Well --- to answer #3 --- it would be to reselect (check the box, not the star) the mail you want to mark unread and then click on the button that says "More actions". Then click on the first option --- mark as unread. Also, after you read a mail, you could click that "More actions" button and click again on the first option -- mark as unread. but any mail you wish to save can just as easily "Archived", sending it into "All mail" on the left hand side. Click on "All mail" and all saved, read and unread mail is displayed. Lost on how to find that one e-mail? See that search bar in the top middle of the page by the big GMAIL on the left? Enter a word or name in that search bar and Gmail will find matches within your e-mail.

As far as your other questions --- I'm not sure about the error message your getting and there are other web based email clients that might not be so confounding, Yahoo! and AIM are decent enough, AIM might be within your comfort range since it is basically AOL.

    Hope that helps!

Are you currently using Gmail? Do questions 2 and 3 pertain to Gmail? That's not clear from your comments.

I use Gmail sometimes and sympathize with your confusion. The layout and directions are not clear and as far as the contacts list is concerned, I still can't get that sorted out beteween Friends, Contacts, etc. My preference is for MS Outlook, but then I have been using it for years.

One thing to keep in mind here is that Gmail can be configured for POP mail, meaning your mail would be downloaded to an email client (software) on your computer such as Outlook Express. If you use it that way, you could avoid accessing Gmail via web browser and just use your email client.

I have done that, yes and yes the email becomes unread, but I have700+ emails, so even though it is unread, it is not at the top of the list.
I like gmail because unlike those other email programs, I don't need to spend 3 years trying to log in
I go to hotmail and I have to type in watchntv@hotmail.com
@hotmail.com??? huh? I AM AT THE HOTMAIL URL, WHAT THE **** DOES IT THINK I AM TRYING TO ACCESS? MY YAHOO ACCOUNT FROM THE HOTMAIL PAGE?
    *deep breath*
ok at gmail I just type in my username, watchntv, and then password, and thats it.
I didn't realize Gmail was not a email server, but a POP client thingy(is my computer ignorance showing)
can someone explain to me how to set it up as a POP thingy, so I can just download my email?
I have all the other email programs, AOL, AIM, Gmail, yahoo, hotmail, and honestly I don't like any of them,
why the hell I can't customize how my email works I'll never understand, I thought google was the new brains of the internet and those nerds would give me the best, easiest to use product, it seems not.

I'll consciously neglect to mention that on a "geek"site, I can't customize for shit here
I have to change the LAYOUT everytime so I can things in a chronological order and not start with the last post 1st, I don't read books backwards, beats me why I can't save my own personal settings

    Hi

    1. Depends on what you want from an email service, while I use Gmail alot its ok, not perfect but then what email service is as most have pros and cons, personally I download all my email services via Windows Live Mail, covers the main services including Gmail via pop3.

    2. Its still beta, the longest running beta I think in history so is prone to quirks and issues, and as such its not going to satisfy everyone, if you want that perfect email service then you would have to create your own.

    3. Dont think you can but you can search by filters that you create for specific emails http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=7190

As for forum settings, then in user CP and Edit Options choose Linear Oldest First in Thread Display Mode and Save, alot of customisable options in User CP, one you cannot change is the colour layout as its green for a purpose

Gmail is an email server. However you can configure it as POP and have it download to your email client (Outlook, Outlook express, etc) as usafveteran said.

Here is a link for standard instructions on how to do that:

Back to your original post. I actually prefer aol email to gmail. It allows pictures to be copied into messages and I think it's a much better system. The only thing gmail does better than the rest is the whole conversation thing. I wish the others would follow suit.

As far as the second question, I have no idea why you would get that message while composing a new email. That only happens when you have deleted a previous 'conversation' and it's still in your Trash file. Make sure your Trash file is empty. What may be happening is you are composing an email with the same title/subject as one you have sent to Trash.

I'm not sure what you mean by your third question. :confused

About your last comment, I'm not sure if this will help your chronological complaint, but try this: go to the top of this page and click on the button "Display Modes" and choose "Hybrid Mode". That choice will set out our replies to you in a way that is easier to follow.

Actually, you can change the way you view all threads here at MGs:

User CP > Edit Options > Scroll Down to Thread Display Options > Under Thread Display Mode, choose 'Linear Oldest First' > At bottom of page click on 'Save Changes'

May be off subject a bit but I use PopPeeper to quickly and easily check all my email accounts at the same time. It's very easy to configure and can manage your AIM, AOL, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, and other email addresses. I liken it to Thunderbird but more streamlined.
