    Hello, everyone!

I'm new here (been checking the forums for about 2 years, but now need to post). Let me start this off by saying that I personally do not use GoBack (and don't like it), but for whatever reason, my dad used it. Also, my dad isn't one for backing up his files, so he's not off to a good start...

Last night, there was some problem with his computer - I'm not sure if he explained everything to me, but when I looked at it, this is what happened:

    - Powered up the computer
    - Displayed Norton GoBack with following note (before getting to Windows):

    Norton GoBack(120)
Your computer crashed or was shut down while Norton GoBack was in the middle of restoring disk #1. Unless there is a serious problem and the restore process continues to fail, you should allow Norton GoBack to continue, otherwise data loss will occur.

Do you wish to continue restoring your hard disk?

I select yes, and it immedately jumps to a black screen with the following:

    ==========GoBack Internal Error==========
    Failure Code: gb_eng2(6324)

    Press any button to restart...

I pressed the spacebar, and it restarted the computer, and this cycle of screens and responses.

Now, I know that he should have backed up his files (I've been trying to get him to buy an external HD for quite some time now), but there's nothing we can do about that now. Right now, I'm looking to see if anyone knows if everything on the HD really is gone (I know there isn't a black & white answer)? And if not, does anyone know how I might be able to recover any files?

I've tried searching all over the internet for information on the failure code that comes up, but I cannot find anything on it, anywhere (and I'm usually really good at finding stuff like that).

Anyway, any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey Dewey! So I guess I should have probably reposted what the end result was for our situation after I figured it out. (Okay, now I'm not saying that this is going to work for you, I'm just stating what we tried and it worked for us.)

When the initial error message comes up and asks if you want to continue restoring the HD, we selected NO. This stopped the cycling, and eventually allowed Windows to load properly. After a few minutes of joy (and through investigation), we discovered that nothing was gone. At this point we immedately uninstalled GoBack (because it was the cause of our computer becoming unstable), and ran out to the store to get an external HD to back-up everything on.

Like I said, it worked for us, but I can't guarantee it will work for anyone else, and take no responsibility for anything that might go wrong. At the time we were so upset that we just assumed that the files were gone, and decided to try anything. Luckily it worked.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Go back and System Restore are incompatible in my experience. Sooner or later you get problems as you have found out. You must turn one or the other off.
