What operating system are you running? Most Windows drivers are available at Dell.com (I can't get to it right now).

Thanks for reply im running XP Pro sp2. This has happened to me before, I never got to fix it but I think the problem lies in the ACPI drivers. For some reason every download link for those drivers is broken. It might not be that, so any suggestions are much appreciated. Oh almost forgot, I now get the old "It is now safe to turn off computer" message when I shut down. I know my power supply is ATX, could that mean something? EDIT: OK just shut down this notebook and I did not receive that message on this one, but this might be because I used driver magician before the format to backup all my drivers hoping not to have this problem, unfortunately, my battery is still unrecognized. I even tried to flash my bios and it keeps saying I have to have both AC and battery plugged in even though they are. It just doesnt seem to know there is a battery installed.

    1. Why did you format instead of using the Dell restore cd?
    2. Are you sure the battery is not dead?
    3. Have you searched the Dell forum?

    4. Have you tried chatting with Dell support?

scroll down to Portable Specific Items.
Battery Bar and Power Meter can be launched manually; the first only when you are on battery power alone.

    5. When the Power Options Properties window appears, click the Power Schemes tab.
    6. From the Power schemes drop-down menu, select Maximum Performance (QuickSet).
    7. In the Settings for Maximum Performance (QuickSet) power scheme section, adjust the Plugged in and Running on batteries settings to the desired preference.
    8. After adjusting the settings, click the Apply button.
    9. Click the OK button.

Dont have a recovery cd so I got my own Windows, The battery worked perfectly before I formatted and it still works just not recognized, no meter the comp says its still on ac power even when its only on batt. alone. And for the inspiron 700m there is only a quickset removal tool.
