So you know I play golf. I play a good amount. Both for fun and competitively (in a purely amateur capacity). I love the game and I’m all for anything that gets more people playing.

Looking at the World Handicap system, I think it’s actually taken from what we’ve always used throughout the US and if it’s not in place elsewhere it should be. I guess I didn’t know it wasn’t other than the fact that when we were in Ireland and Scotland playing we couldn’t post any of our scores because there weren’t any slope or ratings for the courses. I’m not sure how you determine a handicap without that....at least not one that even remotely travels to different courses in any meaningful way.

My index is a 12 which translates to a different handicap depending on the slope and rating (difficulty) of an individual golf course. I can tell you from experience that the system works very well.

 

Oh and not sure on your question regarding your niece and the best player but I know we’ve talked about her and she has a great game.

Your niece still gets strokes if playing in a handicapped tournament and you best player with a +1 gives strokes back so if she shoots par, her score is par plus 1.

I have no idea how your system works though. I’d hope they’d take course difficulty into account when coming up with her index/handicap.

 

Yeah, at the pro level it all about qualifying. After that, they don't use handicaps in any tournaments. It's all straight up stroke play golf with a match play tournament thrown in there every once in a while like the Ryder Cup.

 

I would imagine you've got a pretty good game.
