I just got the Logitech Z-5500's for christmas...man are they good. The only thing that is bad is that I am using them with direct input, and I hear that using direct input does not give they speakers all that they can give. So now I am looking into a good sound card that supports Optical/Coaxial SPDIF. I found this, and this, but they are little expensive. Does anybody know any high quality sound cards that would work the best with my new speakers?

Also, does anybody know out of the following connections offers the best sound quality?:
    -direct input (headphone cable)
    -optical SPDIF
    -coaxial SPDIF

    Thanks a lot!

I ordered that yesterday, but I just realised that it does not have toslink....erg...now what.
I have my 5500's hooked up with the direct stereo cables now. I wanted to have a digital connection to enable dolby 5.1. I noticed that that card I ordered has digital out 5.1. Can someone tell me how that works? All of the outputs on that card look like normal stereo mini-plugs to me. Are they? (with the exception of that firewire port...)

Well even though you've already ordered a card..............................................M-Audio is an industry leader in digital sound & MIDI products for music. I have read many good reviews about thier computer products as well.

if your 5.1 speakers have the three jacks they work by plugging it in the first 3 i believe (color coded) if you only have one jack it will still play 5.1 surround just have it enabled by downloading the newest drivers from the website.

How's the EAX on that card? My computer crashes alot when I turn on EAX and am looking for a descent card that will run EAX in games w/o crashing every once in a while .. I like my card on my previous rig it was fine but it doesn't agree with the tight timings of my new RAM .. I think it's a driver issue and not a hardware issue as the Turtle Beach drivers are kinna budget
