    I have a
    Gigabyte GA-8IG1000MK
    2.53ghz Intel P4
1.25 gigs of PC3200 Kingston RAM at CL3
1 80gig SATA Western Digital drive
    450watt Antec power supply
Radeon x1950 Pro AGP running at 8x

When I play games such as BF2 or Source Engine games, I get terrible FPS. I run them at medium settings at 1024x768 resolution and frame rate rarely stays above 30fps indoor and outdoors. I cleaned up my registry and turned off all unnecesary processes and still the same thing happens.

Could it be that the power supply is to weak to handle the card? The case is kept very cool by 2 120mm fans.

Probably your CPU to be honest - it's not really up to date technology and is only a bit above the minimum spec required to run BF2 - I believe a 1.8ghz cpu is required.

Have you checked that you have the latest ATI drivers installed for your graphics card?

I have the latest Catalyst drivers. Even on source games it runs terribly. 2 months ago when I used my 9800 Pro I would get around 40 average. Now with this card on the same maps I get bare minimum to play.

It is a Sapphire x1950 Pro AGP.

could be 1 of 2 problems.

cpu bottelneck. Your gpu is to fast for your cpu and your cpu. is that a 475 or LGA775 p4?

psu. How meny amps is on that psu's 12 volt rail? use a multi meter and mesure the 12 volt rail at idle and under load running the game. If the rail is pretty stable and dosent dip to far below 11 volts then your cpu is probly the bottleneck.

for source i reccomend googling "caseys config" or look for autoexec tweaks, ive managed to get an extra 50 or so fps out of my source games through various commands that dont effect graphics too adversely

Dude, its not about the latest drivers, its about did you set them properly to run the game. Just check to see if your vid card is controlling the game or is the game doing this by itself. If you Vsync is on in the game then turn it off but thats BF2142 so that option really is not there... that I remember. Try observing your card settings in your Vid card menu and then try the game.
