For some reason I am able to download files via p2p programs but I am unable to access the internet, I just get the default page not found error in IE. Any ideas? I have ran several spyware programs and Norton AV in safe mode and didnt really find much. Here's my HijackThis! Log:

Ok that looks like a good tutorial and I have most of those programs except I have been unable to figure out how to boot into safe mode with networking (after selecting Safe Mode w/ networking of course). I am on a wireless connection and it never initiates in safe mode and besides my internet isn't working anyways.

I have ran both AVG and Norton in safe mode and came up with nothing (after disabling system restore). I will try running the few other programs that I dont have.

If you are using cable/DSL and have your TCP/IP settings to autodetect, make sure it is the same for proxy settings. When you open IE see if it says at bottom "detecting settings"..

Ok I followed the support thread as best as I could, since I am unable to get my wireless connection working in safe mode I was unable to run the online AV tests. My internet still isnt working but the connection is fine. Here are my test results...

::safe mode w/ system restore turned off::

    - CCleaner Ok.

    -Ad-Aware w/VX2 PlugIn (Nothing found)

-S&D (5 DSO entries removed & Immunize enabled)

-Norton AV 2004 in place of the online scan (2 entries in the /program files/internet explorer/ folder [urjvguux.exe x2] had to manually delete them then ran Norton again and found nothing)

    -Stinger (Nothing found)

    -CWShredder (3 entries found CWS.smartsearch CWS.JKsearch CWS.HiddenDll all removed)

    - Kill2Me (Nothing found)

    - AB Buster (Nothing found)

-HS Remove (10 items removed but it specify what)

Its hard to think this is a virus or trojan. Bring up your DOS prompt. Type each

    ping www.cisco.com
    ping 198.133.219.25

This will tell us weather DNS is working, both are cisco.com but we want to determine if you are able to ping either by name or IP address. Try this and post your results.

If you get no response using cisco.com but get responses via IP your DNS is not working.

not sure if this is anything to do with it, but I had the sameish sort of problem due to
pandas proxy server and a poor unistall...

    "R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 127.0.0.1:8080"

other than me not knowing if adsgone is legit
    O4 - Startup: AdsGone.lnk = C:\Program Files\AdsGone\adsgone.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: AdsGone 2004.lnk = C:\Program Files\AdsGone\adsgone.exe

I see no spyware related issues and I agree with ciz. A proxy running through your local IP could be problematic. It's basically routing all IP traffic on port 8080 to your machine.

So should I delete that line? I ran the two pings through DOS:

ping www.cisco.com - ping request could not find host
    ping 198.133.219.25 - Host Unreachable 100% loss

It seems the problem isn't virus/spyware related and I'm not too familiar with troubleshooting internet related problems.

And of course you cleared your DNS cache at the dos prompt by doing:

    ipconfig/flushdns

    Hit enter after that.
90% chance it will not fix it but.....baby steps.
Is this connected to a router? Mac Filtering on or off etc?
