Good video (avi) editor? (to blur out parts, etc.)

I'm looking for something easy to use, and preferably free, to blur out parts (faces) from an avi-video for privacy purposes.

For potential future needs, I'd also like to be able to resize the video-files, insert text, cut and insert segments, crop, sharpen, and enhance colors like I do for digital photos. Basic things you might want to do to videos you want to post publicly.

The first thing that came to mind was ZS4 which is a free video editing app available here at Major Geeks. I haven't used it, but it has some pretty advanced features and I'd think it'll work for you. There's plenty of other AVI editors that will allow you keep/remove certain frames, cut out entire sections, move sections, etc, and they're free also. Here's some links:

AVIdemux (for frame splicing and stream editing; will not blur out faces) http://www.majorgeeks.com/Avidemux__d5930.html
    VirtualDub (similar to AVIdemux) http://www.majorgeeks.com/VirtualDub__d5523.html

thanks. i'm trying Z4 now - so far it seems complicated, if anyone know how to blur stuff with it, please let me know.

i've used virtual dub mod (and virtual dub) before to fix "broken" avi files, and to remove a language from dual language avi-files. i found informal instructions on how to use it to blur out parts, but the procedure appeared rather involved and complicated.

Unfortunately, I think what you want to do is going to be kind of difficult, especially with freeware programs. There are paid programs available that will make it easier, but they don't come cheap. I'm pretty sure the ZS4 web site has a forum and/or help guides that should make your job a bit easier.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
