Yes, you might try out the freeware ad-blocking software which is called: AdFender - The Ultimate Ad Blocker

Also, there is no need to "add filters" because the program does this automatically and gives the user a tiny (and brief) pop-up bubble that tells you when it is updating its filter; which then fades away.

Side Note: I could not find this program listed here at MajorGeeks; however this link will bring you to the main site homepage for AdFender.com

    Good Luck! -- COMP ;)

I use hpHosts which can be installed and updated by using HostsMan: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/hostsman.html

Another very good hosts file is MVPHosts this too can be installed and updated via HostsMan.

Read the info on the home pages carefully, it looks fairly complex at first sight but it's really just a few clicks to get it set up correctly.

Blocking ads and malicious sites this way is independent of the browser used, it works for all applications installed.

If you were a Mozilla browser user, I'd suggest using this as well: Bluhell Firewall (it's not really a firewall), it should cover most of the annoying ads missed by the hosts block. Sorry, I don't know much about available ad blockers for Chrome.

You may want to add Easy Privacy. Scroll down https://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/
Also there are two more listed at the very end: Fanboy's Annoyance List and Fanboy's Social Blocking List.
I run Easy Privacy on my computers. I do not run the other two.
The only site I had a major problem with was Yahoo webmail when they forced the new version on everyone. I had ads appearing at the top and bottom of my inbox and selected "Report issue on this page" from the ABP dropdown menu. Eventually the ads disappeared.

Admuncher is pretty good. It removes adds on all browsers.
