ALMOST. Only two more issues to resolve before I can send windows to the trashcan for good.

need to find a 'nix program to replace Avanquest Check Designer (prints blank checks that can be filled in by Moneydance - my ms money replacement)

and I need to save the pennies to purchase a linux compatable scanner.

After more than a year of playing with linux, I now feel comfortable enough with it to drop-kick windows out of bounds!

My brother Laser AIO works with the scanner with drivers from the Foomatic DB.

Edit: Printer drivers from Foomatic and scanner drivers from Brother.

Sounds like MS is losing a future MVP. Glad to hear that you are making the logical choice. With Vista MS showed her cards, and she is clearly dealing off of the bottom of a stacked deck. Unfortunately I am still using Windblows, but am also experimenting with half a dozen Linux Live CD distributions as well. Linux/GNU has put the wind back in our PC's sails.

While I commend people moving to Linux, Windows will not be overtaken by it. To suggest such a thing is laughable. Vista will became and stay the mainstream OS before long. Sad, but true.

    I concur with that!

After spending 2 years with Ubuntu, thinking all along Linux might make a dent in Windows dominence, it is not going to happen here in the USA. I just (this month) moved to PCLinuxOS. Ran the CD version for all of 1 hour! Rebooted my linux pc and replaced Ubuntu.

Will this end MS...nope, but I'm a much happier linux user now after years of fighting my OS (linux) trying to get it to do what I want.

Food on the table, money in the bank, rent, car payments, may be made by a select few using linux, real world needs are more often met by Windows.

Most business's have it, end of story.:wave

I myself enjoy the amount of control I have over the OS. Something I dont like? I can change it :)

I just started using Ubuntu. What is PCLinuxOS and why'd you like it better? I'm a total Linux n00b :)

PCLOS is very polished, and some people prefer rpm better.

Its also very windows like, which allows an easier transition.

It was more comfortable to use in my case. PCLOS.

Main reason for me was that it works like I do in WindowsXP, and it's not a resource hog.

It is VERY polished and not like some cartoon-like so many have in rendering fonts, gifs,...just overall look is classy.

PCLinuxOS works well on our systems, except a Packard Bell that has a pre-2000 BIOS. It is easy to utilize a Windows driver to get on line with a USB wireless setup. Kubuntu also was easy to get on line with over the wireless connection, although there were a few steps involved, but no searching for Windows drivers involved. Really glad I tried Kubuntu again after these few years, as it seems to have progressed rapidly and support is good, especially for a free distribution. It will probably be the one I try to dual boot with Windows XP, again.
