About a year ago Google announced that Chrome will be blocking several types of ads.
The Coalition for Better Ads (CfBA), a conglomerate of market giants like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, big publishers and advertisers will be calling the shots.

There are so many adblockers because of how awful the ads got. Most people I knew (those not really into computers or tech) didn't even know there were adblockers out there...now everyone does because of the intrusiveness of them.

I hate anything that autostarts. If I want to look at something I will click on it and I have the choice but automatic popups and autostarting videos waste my bandwidth and I make a point of blocking them.........in particular this means you Washington Post and your affiliates

So Google please stop all popups, all site redirects and all autostarting videos or slideshows. I am not so worried about the advertisements because I understand people have to make money just don't let them start all by themselves. If the ads are sitting inactive on a webpage and I am interested, then I have the choice to look or ignore.

    Yes!!!
Reminds me of the waitron who starts rambling on about the 'special of the day' instead of asking if I would like to hear about it.

I pay by the gb for my connection. Video eats into this quick. I read most of the news I get instead of watching tv. Most stories will have video along with the article. I also have others in the house who may be watching tv or carrying on a conversation here in the living room so I don't usually have my sound system turned on. So to me most video or motion ads are useless. What I despise tho is when I click to pause the video at the top of an article you can watch the progress bar continue to cache the rest of the video. Wasting my gb. The pause action needs to be a close capable action. Sometimes I just close the site completely and move on to a different site or article. I can name the sites who are the worst about this and if a news item or article has multiple sources for the story, it influences which site I go to to get the info. So in a way they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Yes, I also see this thanks to a small data counter at the bottom right of my screen.
And like you, I close the page and move on.
