Google Earth 5 & new updater

Well, I did some checking around as I pondered installing Google Earth. I had thought it might be a fun application to have, but now I think I'll hold off for a while. I, as a rule, do not permit ANY software to connect and update behind my back. I would prefer that it not even check on its own, although I am allowing Quicktime to on my desktop. My bandwidth is limited, I need to control when the downloads get done...and besides, updates aren't always that stable. It looks like Google has kind of crossed that line, however, with their update policy. You might find the following 2 links interesting.
