Google Earth fails to "fly to" with .kml file

The USGS provides a kml file for Google Earth (GE) by email when earthquakes occur. Over the years, I routinely download then click on them.

With GE not running, clicking on the .kml file used to open GE and "fly to" the location.

For a while now, if GE is not running, clicking on the .kml file will open GE but will only center on the USA, not the location specified in the .kml. IF GE is running, it just sits there, unresponsive.

A test on an alternate computer worked fine and as expected (it flew-to) which points me back to MY computer.

Is there a setting somewhere that may have been changed? I can't find it. Maybe a firewall setting I don't know how to set? It used to work.

I use Windows 7 x64 SP-1, and GE ver 6.0.2.2074...and MSE and Windows firewall enabled...

Thanks for helping me with this, I'm stumped.
