Google Earth lock ups?

At least half of the time that I pull up GE it will lock my machine when scrolling, any input on curing this will be appreciated!

Specs, OS, RAM, anti-virus, browser, other programs running?? You know the drill. :wave:wave

 

XP HE SP3 2G ram 3.4 dual core Pentium on an all in one ASRock 1333-D667 board. MSE anti virus, free versions of SAS and MB. Even running alone it will do every once in awhile. I used Revo to clean it out and reloaded the latest version still does it.

 

Plenty of resources. Does it lock up in safe mode with networking?

Before you put on MSE, what anti virus? And, esp. if Norton or Mcaffee, did you run the special removal tools?

When it locks, is it just that screen or the entire computer?

Makes me wonder if this is exceeding your video memory capacity. There may be a setting in your BIOS for this, if yes, try a higher setting.:wave

 

Hi thanks for the response, I was running Kaspersky AV and did use its removal tool. I have not tries safe mode, I think you may have hit it on the video, the board spec says 224MB shared for the on board video. I will give it a shot in safe mode to see what gives!

Getting into safe mode was a mild trip, did not realize my key boards were legacy had to enable it in the bios. Fooled around with GE in safe mode for a little while without a glitch, but was kind of in a hurry will try again later.

If it works in safe mode okay, then it is probably more related to your auto run programs.
I use WINPATROL to manage these. From the startup tab, start by disabling everything except anti virus. You can always turn features back on, though all will start when needed, for the most part. :wave:wave
