Google Earth won't open

I downloaded google earth (ver 6) and tried to open the app and nothing happened. So I uninstalled and tried installing prev version (5.2) with same result. The OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Any suggestions? I installed and ran it on my old pc using Win XP home edition and it ran fine. I tried opening the new install using XP mode and still nothing.

 

UAC causing a problem maybe? Do you see it showing in your processes in the task manager when you launch it?

 

I don't know what UAC is but it does not show up at all in the task bar.

 

Try Start -> All Programs and look for the Google Earth Folder, click on it and click the GE icon.
If it does not open follow the above but click on the "Start GE in DirectX mode" and see if that opens it.
If not do it all again and try the "Open GL Mode".

Which ever one works, go back and right click the icon and click Send To and select Desktop (Create a Shortcut). That will put an active shortcut icon on your desktop.

ps UAC is User Account Settings in Windows 7. Click Start and type UAC in the search box and click on UAC in the results pane andit will open the UAC for you

It does not open under any of that. I even went to the google earth client files and tried the app as "run as administrator" and still nothing.

 

Google Earth will not run in VMs.
