robertbiferi I can't follow the rules

Sorry I could not find my Post I did about google so I had to make this new one.
So if you want you can Delette my other one.

I when on my Laptop that has win 7. Home and iE that came with it and all this is the same for my Desktop as well.

When I go to google.com on my Laptop google has all the Tabs in a black box at the top going left to right.

On my desktop google has all the Tabs on just the left hand side going top to bottum.
And if I move my mouse over any of the Tabs on the left hand side going top to bottum it turns into a big black box with all the Tabs in it.

And they act goofy and not right.

And the top of google page on the Left side has the word Google with a + symbole next to it.

What is going on I like the way my Laptop shows google????

You are seeing the new way to search on Google. It will alternate back and forth from the standard to the new look.

Where did you get this notion? Unless you can cite and authoritative supporting reference, I'm going to declare your statement as false. Not doing so would be misleading readers of this discussion.

I don't know if I can be considered an "authoritative reference", but Nick T is correct. When opening to Google default search page, which I use as my home page, it does randomly change between the old look and the new look upon each opening of the browser.

    I think I am a little closer?

Both iE Browsers are 9.0 but the one that shows google the right way is setup like this.
My Adress Bar and Back and Fordard Tabs are all here.
Under them is just my File Tab View Tab Tools Tab.

The iE that has google show up diferant has all this but under these Tabs is Suggest Sies Tab Slice Gallery Tab

I think my Browser may have be Mixedup by something.

Is there a way to set my iE to display as is was by Defalut or something??

Robert, it's not you, it's Google. It's random, there is no setting to change random. Don't waste your time trying to fix something that's not broke.

I know what you are telling me and I don't think this is it.

I just when on my Limited Account and my whole Family uses this one and they never saw google do this and I came back to my Account and google is Displaying the goofy way again.

And it never changes ever and I have my Laptop here again and the old google is showing up.

And my Tablet is showing google the old way.

And I do give it say 30 SEC. or 10 SECX. and come back and it never changes.

I think I may have an Ad On I don't know about?

Can it be what they call google Crome??

Robert, Google Chrome is a browser, like Firefox or Internet Explorer. It doesn't "show up" when you are on Google, you have to download and install it. Nor is it an add-on of any sort.

It's Google. It changes for me either twice a minute or twice a day. Clear your cookies and open the browser, the page is one way. Close and reopen the browser, it likely will have the other layout showing. It's an annoyance, but Google is one big annoyance sometimes.

I'm typing this on my desktop and have a tab opened and it's showing the old layout. I just powered up my laptop and opened my homepage; it's showing the new layout. I refreshed each page; the desktop changed layouts, the laptop stayed the same.

It's random. If it annoys you that much, there's always Bing.

OK if I click on Images Tab on the left hand side of Google and search for say a Tree.

I get all these Images of Tress and if you put your mouse over an Image it gets Bigger and Jumps out at you.

I like the way the old google just let them stay there and let me pick what I want to look at or open.

But I see if I go to the Bottum of google it says Switch To Basic View.

If I click this it then puts all the Images on google the way they useto be.

Where if you put your mouse on it it woont Jump out and it lets me pick what I want to open.

And it allso Put all the Links back at the Top of Google in the Black Box.
And it has Search and Videos and all that back up top.

But the thing is it is only good for Images.

So you say if I leave google open for say a Min. I will see it change back?

  13. solaris89

    solaris89 First Sergeant

No, if you sit on the page it won't change. It changes randomly when you open or reopen the browser. You change click the setting to change it to the old look but it won't be permanent. When you close the browser and reopen it later it will either be the new look or the old look. The black bar on the left (I'm assuming that's what you are referring to) in the new look is for all things Google, not just images.

Again, it's all just random by Google. They are eventually going to get rid of the basic view for good soon, so you might as well accept it the way it is or as I mentioned, use Bing.

This is not happening to me at all, maybe I am just not being picked to 'experiment' on or maybe it's my Google homepage address.
You could try using the same Google homepage address as me, this one does not automatically change to the new language when I go overseas.

You could also try ixquick search and see if you like it.

Bottom line is,,,as solaris89 said,,sooner or later Google page will be the new look ,,you are going to have to take it (accept) or leave it (Yahoo,,Bing,MSN,etc.),,but resetting IE9 will do "nothing"!!!! It's best to stop fretting over it ,,as long as you can find what you are searching for,,in the end it's not going to matter.:)

I have visited www.google.com using IE, Firefox, and Opera and have repeatedly opened and closed browsers and have yet to see this. So, I'm not buying what you're claiming is normal behavior. Google is not randomonly or alternately generating different layouts of www.google.com. If you're seeing that, it's an issue with your computer and/or browser.

I did want to ask you about other Search Sites.
Google keeps records of your Searchs right what Search Site do not keep Records of what you do?

    Is it Bing?

  18. solaris89

    solaris89 First Sergeant

That's incorrect. I have seen this behavior on my two computers here at home and the two I use at work. It's Google, and it's random. There is no pattern to it. I have no issues with any of the computers I use.

Robert, everyone with the possible exception of ixQuick and Duck Duck Go will track you, some to a lesser extent than others. Google is most guilty of this, Bing isn't as privacy invading. In their defense, it's not like Google will knock on your door and ask you why you searched for dog food or whatever, but they do claim to track for analytical purposes. If this is an issue with you. I recommended you never use their Google Chrome browser. Frankly I think the tracking thing is a bit overblown but if you are a privacy freak it's best to use an alternative search engine. Also, Firefox has a mode setting, "start private browsing", which does in fact limit tracking a decent amount. It's built into the browser under menu>tools. You can also use an add-on called better privacy to dump any tracking items.

I acknowledge that you do, indeed, see www.google.com in two different layouts, one horizontal and one vertical but we need more participants in this discussion to get a valid consensus on what's normal and hopefully get to the bottom of this. I've now viewed www.google.com on 4 computers with 3 different browsers on each computer and the menu bar on Google's search page is always in the horizontal configuration, going from left to right. So, how can you expect me to accept the opinion expressed here that Google generates different layouts on some random or alternate basis? If they were, I would surely have seen it by now. Again, we need more participants in this discussion to share their input on this.

I never thought of this as a big deal. I've noticed this a couple of months ago when looking up keyboards,,the bar was on the side with a bubble above it saying "a better way to search" ,"just hover over menu". So I did and went to search and,,,,searched. It stayed like that for maybe 2 - 3 days(not sure), when I searched again it was the original way,,no big deal!!!! At this very moment on my HP Win XP,,it's the new way. But again ,,it was never a big deal!!!!

Google always comes up like Solaris89's second screen shot for me, never like the first one. Using IE, Firefox, Opera(default browser), or LunaScape. Don't have Chrome installed so can't say one way or the other for it.

    I generally use http://ixquick.com/ myself.

Apparently, Google is using some methodology to control the roll-out of this new layout by geographic area. My guess is they have targeted a range of IP addresses for testing of this new layout. This would explain why some users have seen it and others have not.

I would like the clean google look without the black bar, without the black mass on the left side and without Chrome popping up asking me to install it. I would also like my browser to stay in English. Can anyone help me with these things?

If you use Firefox, there are add-ons that help with some of this stuff.

There is a package that allows you to move fields/frames etc around on the page, or even suppress them if you wish. You can also change colors/fonts.

AdBlock Plus makes it easy to block popups, as well as other images.

Your browser should not change languages by itself. What is happening?

The black bar at the top is built in, if you search the web I think there is a way to make it not black but it's a lot of work for a little reward.
The black side bar only happens to some people, so far.

I clicked on the exit cross for that Google Chrome ad and it hasn't come back. I keep my cookies for Google so that my settings stick and that might be the reason, if you use cleaning software like CCleaner put the Google cookies in the keep section.

To stay in English you could try using the same Google homepage address as me, this one does not automatically change to the new language when I go overseas.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd forgotten the ncr extension for keeping it in English. There's another one slightly more complicated that I found that looks like this:

    http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en

I'm sorry that Google is turning a deaf ear to the pleas of customers to continue its previous policies. The black sidebar completely kills the pristine look that I liked so much and I'm very unhappy about the new pop-up announcing the change in their privacy policy. I'm starting to see things popping up in the internet like Big Brother Google and what ever happened to Do no evil. I guess their trackers are monitoring all those comments, so if they aren't responding, it's because they don't want to.

    I'll read about startpage.
    Thanks.
