My wife was recently on her account on my computer, and I noticed the Google Toolbar [for Firefox]. Being that neither of us had put it on there, I was annoyed and immediately went to remove it, only to find it missing from the add/remove programs menu. So I decided to do a system search for "google" and delete all of the Google taint from my computer, after which I went into the Firefox add-ons section to remove it from there as well. The only reason I noticed was that every website I went to was silently redirected through "google-analytics.com", which I noticed by watching the progress bar as I was browsing. This set off the alarm for me, as I don't like being monitored in any fashion.

My problem: I am still being silently redirected through "google-analytics.com".
Even with it uninstalled and removed. This irritates me to no end.
Is there any way to prevent this? Also, when I uninstalled it, Firefox didn't respond well; about 1/8th of the firefox window is grayed out [at the bottom], and restarting it did not fix this.

Thanks hawklord, for pointing out this Google "gotcha". Read the first paragraph, in particular. :p

Maybe uninstall FireFox, run CCleaner's reg cleaner to get any leftover entries, then re-install FireFox? Or just use FireFox portable; it doesn't install anything (including itself) so it should be OK. Just a thought!

Yes, but it is Shareware with a 30 day trial. USD$19.95 to buy. Bazza
