LOAD of FUD, Vista by default allows various search engines to be set as default in IE, been same way since early betas! AHHHHHHHHH poor GOOGLE! who are just as bad with trying to corner the full market in many software areas... antitrust! Google maybe next in fireing line!

    Halo,
In my original writing of this post, I almost put your name in parentheses after "Any comments?", because I knew I could count on you for a comment favorable to Microsoft. I think it is actually a LOAD of FUD to deny that Microsoft is monopolistic. There are certain instances in history (thinking of the American revolution), where an injustice is adequate to stir people to work against all odds to throw off a power which threatens any possibility for parallel development.

It took me awhile to find my post this morning.

While its FUD to say MS isn't monopolistic, its just as easy to say(and be correct), that any company thats looking for a free ride will try to sue MS for a piece. Do you blame MS for being monopolistic, or do your blame our inadequate government from preventing it? Its a shame that we (the US) have laws that the government doesn't enforce, because they are lazy.

Halo is right, Vista has made it so that you xan set its default search engine online to Google. Its also safe to say that any company looking for free plublicity need only file a lawsuit against MS.

That comes from a Microsoft hater ;)

hate to say it but good. Google toolbar is the bain of my life at work people download it not knowing what they are doing and as our work is in partnership with ms at the moment all I can say is good. Vista is so much safer than XP being using the full version since November and have had no problems with it security wise.

To add another bit and aimed at the desktop search tools, then similar to running two Antivirus apps running two indexing search tools will slow a PC down, kinda thought Googles techs will have known that one, but on the other hand, its not well documented that you can disable the Windows Search function in Services ( and search indexing is in XP too, but not as user friendly as Vistas ).

While I will defend Microsoft to a point, I have issues with some of the things they do, but all large corporations are not saints, one thing is I try to do my bit and feedback to MS my views, good and bad.. while I tiny fish in large sea at least I tell the developers what I feel on the software, I currently testing and they do reply, may not be what I want to hear but occasionally they agree, what I suggest may never see light of day ( same with other folk who feedback to MS ) but at least we do something constructive.

To be perfectly honest I have no issue with Microsoft or any company bundling as much software in their product as they want, its upto competing companies to make better products.

Come on Google write an OS!

*note I do use most of googles products and love them, from Gmail to Picasa.

    Couldnt agree more,
it helps keep the costs down for the consumer,
    hopefully minimises software conflicts
and makes it a lot easier for people to get into computing in the first place.

If you don't like the products, you can always download replacements (even a totally different OS)
It cant really be a monopoly if there are alternatives !

Shouldn't be too far away !!

    btw: Whats a FUD ?
    Do I need it ?
Is one enough, or do I need a load of them ?

I was leaning towards supporting Google until someone mentioned those messed up toolbars. Seems like a full time battle to keep it off my computer. :mad

I like Gmail, though I don't use it yet. I even like using google for search, but they have to be one of the most intrusive companies out there.

I'd like to know what FUD is too? confused
