    Morning All,
I'm having problems getting to Googles web site. It started with my google search bar in Firefox. Everytime I search for something it comes up "server not available". Yesterday I could still connect directly to Googles web site by typing it in in the address bar, this morning I cant get to it by doing that or come up with anything from the search bar. I'm not having any problems surfing anywhere else. Got any ideas???

    Thanks,
    T.Blue

which is the same as the ones I gave you. but your browser can't resolve google to an ip (nslookup won't check your hosts file though)

OK something is blocking your access to google. Are you running a fire wall ?

Have a look at your hosts file and see if there is an entry for google.com

    Try pinging googles server

OK there doesn't seem to be a host file entry doing this.

    http://www.google.com/ <-- does this work ?
    http://www.google.co.uk <-- does this work ?

Download, install and run CCleaner hit analyze then when finished hit run cleaner

This will delete all tmp files and temporary internet files then try the 2 links again

Sorry lol I was being a bit dumb, should have tried the easy solution first.

Your temporary internet files probably contained a cached verison of googles home page that had failed to download , so when you went to go on the internet it was using the cached version and not realising it was broken.

Try running CCleaner a little more often, I run mine at least everyday!

    Ok will do...Thanks again

Now its happening again. I logged off the internet, got back on and the same thing happened. I ran CC again but it doesn't help now. I also uninstalled CC cleaner and downloaded the newer version and tried that. Not working???GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:confused:

hmm odd, perhaps there were files locked when you ran CC. Reboot to safe mode and make sure all browser windows are closed and rerun CC

Run the issues section of CC too to clean up your registry.

  18. tblue

    tblue Corporal

Ran CC in safe mode and ran issues section. Google still doesn't work in safe mode or normal mode??

    odderer and odderer.

When you attempt to go to google.com does it try to redirect you to anywhere else?

WHat is the exact error message ?

Is this issue only with FireFox

UNinstall the google toolbar and try again

  20. tblue

    tblue Corporal

It happens with Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer says "page cannot be displayed"
I've attached a pic of the message in Firefox

  21. matt.chugg

    matt.chugg MajorGeek

    No you havn't :) but don't worry I don't need one.

DId you try uninstalling the google toolbar to see if this had any effect ?

  22. tblue

    tblue Corporal

Ok scratch the pic idea. Here is what it says in Firefox

    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

  23. tblue

ok Im getting the feeling something is specifically blocking google, since it worked when we used the ip addresses (can you confirm they are still working for me)

    Post a new HJT log.

  32. tblue

    tblue Corporal

Yes the IP addresses still work

Are you using a router ? If so lets reboot it.

    Lets flush your dns cache:

Goto Start --> Run and type CMD and hit enter

    type in 'ipconfig /flushdns'

Wait until you get the 'Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache' message and close the window.

    Next open Internet Explorer

    Goto Tools -> Internet Options

    CLick on the Security Tab

Select Restricted Sites and click Sites

I google is in the resulting list then click it and click remove.

Close Internet Explorer, reboot and try again.

  34. tblue

    tblue Corporal

I flushed my DNS and it still didn't work.
Google was not in my restricted sites.
I am using a router. I reset it and now my google search bar is working. Any ideas as to why or how this happened?

    Thanks Alot:)

Several posibilities, Its probably a caching problem.

Lots of things get cached in lots of places and sometimes 'negative' entries get cached.

Is google working from your internet explorer and ie now too. ?

  36. tblue

    tblue Corporal

Yes it's working from IE and Firefox.
    Thanks again,
