When Google put this Anniversary Pacman on my Google homepage I thought that my pc had caught a major virus.
Every time I opened up my computer for the web or for my emails this pacman thing went beserk.
I couldn't get rid of it and nearly called up an expensive call out to fix it.
What are your thoughts on this.
I'm pissed off that Google did this with no warning.

I have no clue to how someone could get mad about Google doing it. Not like it popped up or was huge and most of the people actually liked it and played it. Plus if such an issue dont use google for that day.

And it didn't make noise unless you clicked on the "insert coin" button.

I would hope that any reputable tech you would have called would have known what it was and not charged you...or bothered to come look at your machine.

As for there being no warning...Google has been doing special logos for at least a couple of years...I didn't think they needed to explain themselves any more.

As I stated,.,AS SOON AS I OPENED IE OR ANY PAGE INCLUDING MY EMAILS THIS PACMAN WENT OFF.

I saw the insert coin button and didn't click it at all,.,ever.

What about newcomers to computers,How the heck do complete pc newbies know what is going on.
Before ya start chucking punches at peoples lack of pc knowledge just jog yerself with a couple of uppercuts and remember your own first ever sit down in front of a screen.

I'm not sure how that works. I saw it in IE7, Google Chrome 4.1 and Firefox 3.6.3 and it didn't do anything in any of them until I hit the "insert coin" button. There is no possible way for it to start when you're opening your email, unless you have another browser window/tab open to Google while you are doing so. Once you navigate away from the Google home page the game goes away with the rest of the content.

And please don't get snippy with us. Yes, there are people in the world who have never in their lives sat down to a computer. Some of them may have done so while Google was displaying Pac-Man. However, I would hope that someone who has never before used a computer would be smart enough to know how much they don't know, and would not be getting online completely without supervision the very first time they do it. The first time I ever sat down in front of a screen would have been in 1978 or 1979, and I was at school. Of course, we were still using either punch cards or cassette tapes (in the new really cool machines) at that point, so obviously the internet in general wasn't really a factor, but we were still closely supervised. Even someone who has never owned a computer would be hard pressed in this day and age to say they had never sat down in front of one before.

I was going to post the same thing while ago but figure Id just not. I was goign to say the same thing someone should learn about computers/internet before getting on or using it. Specially the internet the big world and all the trouble is has in it. Your lucky your at the best forum IMO with the best people as well. Just to let you know it was Googles 30 Aniversary I believe, and its common that Google does change itself once in a while.

Listen up Sgt.Tibbs,.,I replied to you,.,not to "us"
And I stick by what I said, and I know what happened, just like I described it.
Your "day and age" is not the same as everyone elses, and there are millions of people who have never fronted a keyboard, let alone a pc.
For someone of that description to buy a pc and take it home the first time can be a daunting experience when the first problem inevitably arises.
I hope that if someone ever managed to hook you with their first ever attempt at asking for help you might realize that they need help not ridicule.

PS,.,DON'T BOTHER TO REPLY,because I aint gunna continue with this.I wasn't looking for a blue,.,just a few reasonable adult answers about a pc problem.

Hi and welcome to the forum Frazzy

Just slow down and take it easy a bit, no-one is out to make fun or ridicule you at all, in this instance many dont see this Google Pac Man thing as an issue, however I can see to a novice PC user how it could look something out of the norm and cause alarm.

I think what Tibbs and others where trying to assertain is clarification on what you where seeing as no-one else that I know of had the Google Pac Man thingy start all on its own, but thats not to say that something on your PC may not have triggered this, a toolbar, security app, accessability options in windows if used etc

BUT please do not use captials in replies like you did as in the internet world thats like shouting abuse to someone and can be met with returned hostility, you will find that the core daily users of this forum are a friendly bunch that are from all around the world, we dont discriminate against age, knowledge etc unlike some forums do.

For your info this page is good and will highlight what Google do at times http://www.google.co.uk/logos/ (started around 2000 doing these) you will notice alot daily when the upcoming World Cup Football is on, so keep an eye for those, if you dont like what google do, then there are plenty of alternate search engines and some much better than Google (in my opinion anyways) Bing, Clusty to name two.

So just hope we can draw a line under this and carry on with any tech/PC help you are after and that you will join in, in the lighthearted threads in the lounge.

I wasnt tring to be rude or insult you. I have family and my parent dont even know how to turn on a computer if I asked them to. And the suggestions we give/say are just suggestions on something to look into. Like the internet being a big world, you may google search something and go to a site and get malware on your computer and infect it when if you just read a few things on this site/internet you can learn some things on how to use a computer, how to make using the internet safer for you and etc. I for one do not know clearly as much as these people here that is why I try to learn and read.

Hey silas,.,Why are you trying to make out that you can't speak fluent English?
I personally couldn't care less why you wanna carry on with this pretense.
It just looks plain dumb, because it is so obvious.
You try to make me look stupid with your comments in reply to my google pacman post.BUT IT DIDN'T WORK.:-D

    This thread is done.

@Frazzy. You came into a computer forum talking about a gripe with google and got upset when no one agreed with you. There isn't one response here that is ridiculing you. If you have chosen to take it that way, that is unfortunate.

I'm locking this thread as it is going absolutely no where other than you continuing to make rude comments to people.
